What is GetYourRefund and how does it work?

GetYourRefund.org offers taxpayers help filing their taxes for free. We offer 2 main services: 

A File with Help option and a File Myself option. Here we'll explain more our File with Help option. For details on File Myself, click here. 

The File with Help option connects you with an IRS certified tax preparer from their VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program for free. They will prepare and file your return, and help you claim all of your state and federal tax benefits. Generally, it can take 2-3 weeks before your return is prepared and filed.

You should consider GetYourRefund File with Help, if you:

- need to file multiple tax years

- haven't filed taxes before and would like extra support

Steps of the service:

1. Go to GetYourRefund.org and click "Get Started." Answer intake questions, and upload identification and tax documents. It's here that you'll create your account.

2. A tax team is assigned to your account. Your tax team will not call you right away; they will text or email you with next steps within 5 business days-. 

3. Your tax preparer will prepare your tax return.

4. A second tax preparer will complete a quality review of your return. They will call you a second time to review your return. Here you can review your paperwork, refund amount and ask them questions.

5. You will sign your tax forms electronically.

6. Your tax preparer will submit your taxes to the IRS. If needed, they will assist you with any next steps regarding your return.
